BREAKING> Jimmy Johnson takes issue with Jerry Jones’ management of the Cowboys’ contracts with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.

During an interview with Colin Cowherd on “The Herd,” former head coach of the Dallas Cowboys Jimmy Johnson discussed the team’s owner, Jerry Jones, and the fact that no contracts had been signed by elite players like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Johnson would be honest about the state of the Cowboys and how failing to secure key offensive weapons might have a detrimental effect on the team’s future in the upcoming years.

With two Super Bowl victories under his leadership (1989–1993), Dallas has not won one since. The football icon, who has known Jones for a long time, would candidly state that he and the team are “in a bind” and that it was a “mistake” that the contracts were not settled sooner.

Johnson remarked of the Cowboys, “Well, he’s really in a bind.” “Jerry’s in a tough situation because of these contracts; he has three players who want to be the highest paid player in their position, and you know he should have resigned from them sooner than he has been doing.”

Later in the meeting, Johnson would discuss the quarterback market and how players like Trevor Lawrence, Jordan Love, Tua Tagovailoa, and others have been able to sign huge contracts. Prescott is eligible for a contract extension.

The quarterback situation with Dak Prescott is another issue, as Johnson stated, “I think the entire league has a problem here because everybody understands that you’re not going to win if you don’t have a quality quarterback.” “The sole issue is that proficient quarterbacks are requesting high compensation, despite not being exceptional players or quarterbacks. However, since their contracts are expiring, they will be compensated more than any other player at that position.”

The reason this has gotten worse over the past few years is that all of the owners are in a desperate situation and realize they need a quarterback, a good one at that, and the quarterback salary is eating up too much of the salary limit.

In any case, it’s still unclear what will happen to players like Prescott, who may become a free agent at the conclusion of the season, and Lamb, who is still holding out. The Cowboys play their first game of the 2024 season on Sunday, September 8, against the Cleveland Browns in an attempt to recover from their early playoff departure from the previous season.
