“Nottingham Forest’s Transfer Shock: Belgian Star Could Be Heading for a Summer Exit”
Two summers ago, the Reds added 23 new players, and last summer they brought in 13. This year, they have signed just six new players, indicating a more measured approach at the River Trent.
The PSR criteria were satisfied when Forest sold Moussa Niakhate and Orel Mangala to Lyon in July, which is promising for avoiding a points deduction.
However, recent news might surprise Nottingham Forest fans. Belgian international Mangala, who joined Lyon in January and spent the latter half of the 2023/24 season on loan in France, is now potentially on the move again. Lyon, having bought him in the summer to help Forest meet PSR requirements, might sell him this summer.
Mangala, who was in good form last season and helped Lyon qualify for Europe, could miss out on European competition himself if Lyon decides to sell him. They paid £15 million to secure him, and several clubs across various leagues are likely interested in the midfielder.
Mangala, who joined Forest in the summer of 2022 and made 53 appearances for the club, scored twice and had one assist. At Lyon, he scored twice but played only 12 times during their rise in the league. While Mangala is a quality player, he struggled with his role at Forest, particularly under Nuno Espirito Santo.
