“Fiji Rugby Union Makes Triumphant Return to World Rugby Council: A Victory for the Pacific Nation”
The Fijian Rugby Union has been re-admitted to the World Rugby Council effective immediately, based on recommendations from the Fiji Oversight Committee.
Fiji had been removed from the council in May of the previous year, but after implementing a new constitution and governance structure, they have now been reinstated. This marks the conclusion of a significant restructuring process for the Fijian Rugby Union, positioning the Pacific Island nation to have a more prominent role in World Rugby going forward.
“A Victory for Our Union”
Peter Mazey, Chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union, expressed his gratitude, stating, “We deeply appreciate the support of World Rugby and the dedication of our stakeholders throughout this journey.”
He continued, “The adoption of our new constitution and governance framework reflects our commitment to advancing Fiji Rugby. This reinstatement is a triumph not just for our Union, but for all our players, coaches, and fans who have supported us during this time.”
This achievement enables us to strengthen our relationships within the global rugby community and continue our mission of developing rugby in Fiji.
“We are eager to work alongside our fellow council members to make a positive impact on the sport at both national and international levels.”
With their return to the council, Fiji has regained full voting rights. Additionally, level three match official courses will resume on the island after a five-year break.
