“Rangers Rally in Extra Innings, Halt Red Sox Sweep with Dramatic 9-7 Victory”
The Texas Rangers secured a 9-7 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night, preventing a three-game sweep. “We’re still learning and growing as a team,” said Red Sox manager Alex Cora during his media address.
Wyatt Langford tied the game in the ninth inning with a three-run homer with two outs, and Jonah Heim followed up with a two-run homer in the 10th to clinch the win for the Rangers.
“We need to learn from today and improve. We have to keep the ball in the ballpark,” Cora added.
Despite Dane Dunning and reliever David Robertson giving up a combined seven runs over 5 2/3 innings, the Rangers managed to overcome the Red Sox by hitting four home runs. Adolis García hit two, while Wyatt Langford and Jonah Heim each added one.
Heim’s 10th-inning homer came on Zach Kelly’s first pitch, bringing in Ezequiel Duran, who started the inning on second base. In the ninth inning, Langford’s seventh homer of the season tied the game after Corey Seager and Josh Smith singled off Josh Winckowski.
The Red Sox had taken the lead in the eighth inning, scoring three two-out runs off David Robertson. Masataka Yoshida’s double set the stage for Connor Wong, who was brought in as a pinch-runner. After Rafael Devers was intentionally walked, Jansen singled to score Wong, followed by Luis Urías’s double that drove in Devers and Jansen.
In a back-and-forth contest at Fenway Park, where the Rangers were determined to avoid a sweep, Jonah Heim, who had pinch-hit in the eighth inning, delivered a game-winning two-run homer in the 10th inning, sealing a 9-7 win for Texas.
