Ahead of the season, Dallas made an inter-division trade that cost them little more than a late-round draft pick.
On July 24, 2024, the Cowboys agreed to a trade with the New York Giants, acquiring veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips. The Cowboys will send a sixth-round pick to the Giants in exchange for a seventh-round pick.
Phillips, who was signed by the Giants after the 2023 season, never played a game for New York before being traded. If he had stayed with the Giants, he would have added depth to one of the NFL’s most formidable defensive lines. Instead, he’ll provide that same veteran presence and depth to a young Cowboys interior defensive line, which includes promising talents like Mazi Smith and Osa Odighizuwa.
With elite edge rushers such as DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons, the Cowboys’ defensive line is strong, but Phillips, at 32, brings valuable experience. With 62 career starts, 24 sacks, and 181 tackles across 120 NFL games, Phillips, who has also played for the Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals, and Buffalo Bills, is approaching a decade in the league.
