“Transfer Battle Looms as Celtic Target Chris Mepham Eyes Bournemouth Exit”
According to Fabrizio Romano, a potential Celtic transfer target is set to leave his current Premier League club. Chris Mepham, who currently plays for Bournemouth, had limited opportunities last season, making just 13 appearances. However, he has accumulated 150 appearances across the Premier League and the English Championship and is an experienced international for Wales.
Earlier this summer, the Daily Mail reported that the Premiership champions had added Mepham to their list of summer transfer targets, although the £8m fee Bournemouth might demand could be a stumbling block. Despite this, Celtic has shown they are willing to spend, as evidenced by their £9.5m move for Adam Idah.
However, Celtic is not the only club interested in Mepham. Romano stated on X that Mepham is looking for a new club to embrace fresh challenges after his time at Bournemouth. Ipswich, Torino, and Anderlecht are reportedly in the race to sign him, with more clubs expected to join the competition.
At present, Brendan Rodgers primarily relies on Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales as his central defenders, with Stephen Welsh, Gustaf Lagerbielke, Maik Nawrocki, and Yuki Kobayashi providing backup. However, Welsh, Lagerbielke, and Kobayashi have all been linked with potential exits from Parkhead this summer.
