“Spurs Midfielder Yves Bissouma in Hot Water After Posting Laughing Gas Video on Social Media”
A key Tottenham midfielder has issued a public apology after recording himself inhaling nitrous oxide and posting the video on Snapchat
Spurs player Yves Bissouma shared a video on his private Snapchat account, showing him inhaling laughing gas in a chauffeur-driven limousine, laughing between puffs. The Sun obtained the footage.
This incident, coming just a week before Tottenham’s Premier League opener against Leicester City, poses an unwanted distraction for manager Ange Postecoglou and Bissouma’s teammates.
The 27-year-old Mali international and former Brighton midfielder apologized on Sunday night, acknowledging his “severe lack of judgment” and stated that the issue would be handled internally.
In the UK, recreational use of laughing gas was made illegal last year. Nitrous oxide, often referred to as ‘hippy crack’, is usually inhaled from balloons filled using canisters, which can now be super-sized.
While the drug can provide a brief high, it carries serious risks including heart attacks, strokes, and brain damage, and has been linked to fatalities. In November, nitrous oxide was reclassified as a controlled Class C drug, making possession for recreational use a criminal offense, although convictions are unlikely unless there’s intent to supply.
Concerns have been raised about the drug’s popularity among Premier League footballers, as routine drug tests may not detect it.
Bissouma is about to begin his third season with Tottenham, having made 56 appearances for the club so far. Prior to joining Spurs, he spent four seasons at Brighton, making 124 appearances for the Seagulls.
