Tammy Abraham has downplayed transfer rumors, expressing his commitment to doing his best for AS Roma amidst speculation about a potential loan move to Leicester City.
The English forward has been heavily linked with a transfer to revive his career this summer. After a successful 2021/22 season in Rome where he scored 27 goals, injuries have hampered his progress, resulting in just 10 goals over the past two seasons.
Steve Cooper, looking to strengthen his Leicester City squad before the transfer window closes, has reportedly identified Abraham as a potential target. According to Calcio Mercato, a season-long loan to the King Power Stadium has been suggested. However, Abraham himself has dismissed any talk of leaving Roma.
“From the moment I arrived in Rome, I’ve been determined to show my passion for football and my commitment to the club,” he told Sky Sports News. “I’m always smiling and staying positive. This is my first pre-season after injury, and I want to prove that I’m back. The rumors are flattering, they mean you’re doing well, but I’m focused on Roma and giving my best.”
In addition to Leicester, Premier League clubs Everton and Bournemouth—who recently gained £65m and have a vacant striker position following the sale of Dominic Solanke—have been linked with the 26-year-old. However, it was reported that Abraham’s preferred move would have been a season-long loan to AC Milan.
If a transfer had occurred, Roma reportedly preferred to sell him to a Premier League club for at least €30m (£25.6m). Negotiations over a loan to Milan would have been challenging, as Milan wanted to evaluate Abraham’s injury status over a year before committing to a permanent deal, while Roma aimed to include straightforward conditions to trigger a purchase obligation.
