“Celtic Ready to Steal Manchester United Midfielder from Rangers’ Grasp”
A former Celtic star claims he has been personally informed that the Premiership champions are planning to disrupt Rangers’ pursuit of Hannibal Mejbri, who has been strongly linked with the club.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is seeking to bolster his squad before the transfer window closes, and one target is the Manchester United midfielder, who has reportedly caught the eye of those at Ibrox.
Frank McAvennie, a former Celtic striker, believes Rodgers is focused on signing players who can make an immediate impact. He also claims to have heard directly from a source close to the deal that Celtic are keen to sign the midfielder Rangers want.
McAvennie told Football Insider: “I’ve been informed by people involved that Celtic want to swoop in and sign the player from under Rangers’ noses. That’s great news. He’s young, talented, and currently with Manchester United.
There are still a couple of weeks left before the transfer window closes, and I would have liked to see Celtic spend some money by now.
“Brendan is one of the top coaches in Europe, an elite coach, so he’ll be talking to players. Sometimes, the better the player, the harder it is to secure their signing.
That might be the case now, so hopefully, we’ll see two or three quality players join the squad. They’re looking for players who can improve the first team immediately, not just those who might make an impact later on.”
