“Volpe Bruises Foot in Yankees Loss, But Late-Season Surge Continues”

New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe exited Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels due to a bruised left foot.

Volpe injured his foot after fouling a ball off it in the second inning, and although he fouled out afterward, he continued playing for five more innings in the rain. He was eventually replaced by Oswaldo Cabrera in the eighth inning when the Angels had built a 9-1 lead. The Angels went on to win the game 9-4.

The Yankees reported that Volpe was examined by team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad, and X-rays confirmed there were no fractures.

Manager Aaron Boone commented after the game, saying, “I think he’s going to be fine.”

Now in his second season, Volpe, who batted .209 as a rookie, is currently hitting .257 with 11 home runs and 45 RBIs.

Before the All-Star break, Volpe was batting .245, but he has improved significantly, hitting .320 (24 for 75) over 18 games since the break.
