Grimsby Town have strengthened their attacking options by securing Luca Barrington on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion until the end of the season. The 19-year-old, now the Mariners’ eighth summer signing, adds versatility to the squad with his ability to play on both wings, complementing the existing options at the club.
Barrington began his youth career at Manchester City, joining at age six and eventually signing his first professional contract with the club in 2022. He was part of City’s U18 Premier League-winning side, scoring 10 goals in 22 games. After moving to Brighton, Barrington made nearly 50 appearances for their U21 team, contributing to 24 goals and earning a spot in the first team squad under Roberto De Zerbi last season.
With Charles Vernam and Jason Dadi Svanthorsson currently occupying the wing positions, Barrington’s arrival provides much-needed depth, and he can also be utilized centrally. Grimsby Town manager Artell highlighted Barrington’s technical skill and his ability to make penetrating runs, suggesting that his energy could be a valuable asset off the bench.
