The final for the 2024 Olympic rugby sevens has been set, with hosts France taking on the defending champions, Fiji.
In the semi-finals, France came back from a halftime deficit against South Africa, who led with a try from Tristan Leyds. The introduction of Antoine Dupont early in the second half sparked a dominant performance from France, resulting in three tries by Rayan Rebbadj (twice) and Jordan Sepho, leading to a 19-7 victory.
In the other semi-final, Fiji turned a tight first half into a convincing 31-7 win over Australia. Tied at 7-7 at halftime, Fiji quickly took control with a try from Losefo Baleiwairiki just one minute into the second half. They extended their lead with two more converted tries by Kaminieli Rasaku and Selesitino Ravutaumada, plus a penalty from Terio Veilawa Tamani, securing their place in a third consecutive Olympic final.
Elsewhere, a late try by Terry Kennedy gave Ireland a 17-14 win over the USA, earning them a spot in the fifth-place play-off against New Zealand. New Zealand secured their spot by defeating Argentina in overtime, thanks to a try from Andrew Knewstubb.
The final series kicks off with Uruguay facing Japan in the 11th-place play-off at 15:30, followed by the 10th-place play-off between Samoa and Kenya. The bronze medal match between South Africa and Australia starts at 18:00 local time, with the gold medal final between France and Fiji concluding the tournament at 18:45 local time.
