“Roma’s Bold Moves: Ghisolfi and De Rossi’s Transfer Masterclass with Soulé and Dovbyk Pursuits”
Roma’s summer transfer campaign got off to a slow start, but the new Director of Sport, Florent Ghisolfi, and club legend-turned-manager, Daniele De Rossi, are set to finish strong. Although they missed out on their initial targets, Lille forward Jonathan David and Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, Roma’s alternative signings might actually position the club better for success this season and in the future.
After failing to secure Chiesa, Ghisolfi quickly and discreetly shifted his attention to Juventus’ other young winger, the Argentine prodigy Matías Soulé. The 21-year-old, who struggled at Juventus, found his form under Eusebio Di Francesco at Frosinone last season, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists in 36 league appearances.
Despite strong competition from Leicester City, who were reportedly prepared to offer nearly €35 million for Soulé, Roma remained determined, leveraging Soulé’s desire to play in the capital to finalize a deal with Juventus. According to multiple sources in Italy, the deal is set: Soulé will join Roma for €26 million, with an additional €4 million in likely attainable incentive clauses, plus a 10% sell-on fee.
Pairing Soulé with Paulo Dybala and Tommaso Baldanzi gives De Rossi three versatile and agile players to utilize this season, but Roma is not done yet—they still need a new striker.
Recently, there was talk of acquiring Artem Dovbyk, Girona’s €40 million-rated forward. The 27-year-old Ukrainian excelled in his first season in Spain, leading Girona to a surprising third-place finish and winning the La Liga scoring title.
Dovbyk’s impressive debut season in Spain caught the attention of Atletico Madrid, who agreed to a €40 million deal with Girona. However, Ghisolfi and De Rossi, as they did with Soulé, decided to win Dovbyk over with a personal approach. De Rossi reportedly called and texted him multiple times in recent days.
