“Cowboys Training Camp: Surprising Struggles and Standout Stars”
The Dallas Cowboys started their training camp this week at their facility in Oxnard, California, with activities resuming on Friday, July 26.
The opening day was marked by an unusual press conference featuring Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, and head coach Mike McCarthy, who seemed uncomfortable. Once the press conference concluded, players took to the field.
There were mixed results, and the team looks forward to continuing on Friday.
Following Friday’s afternoon practice, the team will host Oxnard Fan Night, featuring special performances, giveaways, photo opportunities, and autographs. For now, let’s focus on the afternoon practice session.
Three key points to watch for when the Cowboys return to the field:
Cooper Rush and Trey Lance are vying for the primary backup quarterback position behind Dak Prescott, but neither stood out on Thursday.
Rush struggled with accuracy and didn’t distinguish himself from Lance, who is participating in his first full training camp with the Cowboys. Surprisingly, Rush didn’t seem as comfortable as expected.
Lance also faced challenges, primarily with confidence. He hesitated to throw downfield, a necessary skill to display his talent to the coaching staff.
Training camp is just the beginning, and we’ll see more of these two during the preseason. However, it would be encouraging to see more competitiveness from both.
Jalen Tolbert was the standout on Day 1, showing strong chemistry with Dak Prescott and making several catches, including the Play of the Day.
Tolbert beat DaRon Bland and made an impressive adjustment to catch the ball near the goal line.
Prescott frequently targeted Tolbert, who has a significant opportunity to become a breakout player for both the Cowboys and the league if he secures the WR3 spot.
Let’s see if Tolbert can continue to impress and deliver highlights.
