“Why the Cowboys’ Lack of Effort in Their Crushing Playoff Defeat Could Haunt Them This Season”
Last season, the Dallas Cowboys had moments where they appeared impressive and even dominant, particularly on defense. However, concerns arose before their wild-card playoff game against the Green Bay Packers. The Cowboys quickly fell behind 27-0 in the first half and eventually lost 48-32, which was a major disappointment for a team that has been one of the NFL’s most talented and had won 12 games each of the past three seasons.
Michael Irvin, speaking on “The Jim Rome Show,” suggested that the loss was due more to a lack of effort and playoff intensity rather than defensive shortcomings or poor play from quarterback Dak Prescott. Although the Cowboys’ defense had been strong in the regular season, it was absent in their playoff game against Green Bay.
Quarterback Jordan Love excelled for the Packers, completing 16 of 21 passes for three touchdowns and no interceptions, while running back Aaron Jones, despite being solid but not spectacular, rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns. Prescott’s two first-half interceptions also set a negative tone.
With Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, and pass rusher Micah Parsons up for contract extensions, the Cowboys made few changes in the offseason. As training camp begins, their roster has noticeable gaps, and any lack of effort this season could have even more severe repercussions.
