“Katie Robinson Signs with Aston Villa: A New Chapter Begins”
The 21-year-old forward has left the Seagulls after her contract expired last month and is now joining Villa as a free agent. Robinson had been with Brighton since 2020 and spent a brief period on loan at Charlton Athletic two years later due to an ACL injury that initially affected her development.
After returning to Brighton, Robinson excelled in the 2022/23 season, earning her first senior call-up to the England team in November 2022. She has since earned five caps and was the youngest player in England’s 2023 World Cup squad.
During her tenure at Brighton, Robinson made 68 appearances and scored ten goals, earning the title of young player of the season for 2022/23. However, she hasn’t received a senior England call-up since last September due to increased competition for attacking spots.
Villa’s new manager, Robert de Pauw, commented on her signing: “I’ve known Katie since my time as head coach of the Netherlands U17 team. She played as a winger against us and was quite a challenge. She possesses speed and knows how to leverage her skills. She aims to increase her international caps and advance with us. Her ambition aligns with ours, and I believe she can be a game-changer for Aston Villa Women.”
Robinson joins Villa following the departure of Alisha Lehmann to Juventus, who left the club this summer after three years.
