“Rangers Fans Left in the Dark Over Stadium Redevelopment Fiasco”
Hugh Keevins has strongly criticized Rangers due to “internal disagreements” at Ibrox.
Writing in the Sunday Mail (page 57, 14 July), Keevins condemned the club for a lack of transparency.
He noted that there has been a lot of indiscriminate blame around the disruptions to Rangers’ league, cup, and European commitments caused by a delayed steel shipment from Asia.
Keevins wrote, “Rangers should be transparent and improve communication between the club and its fans. The upcoming season will be challenging enough without internal conflicts adding to the issues.”
Due to lengthy redevelopment delays at Ibrox, Rangers will begin the 2024/25 season away from their home stadium (via Rangers Review, 20 June).
Keevins also criticized the handling of the situation, calling it a “costly fiasco” and an embarrassment, highlighting the necessity for the team to play at Hampden for an unspecified period.
Starting the season away from Ibrox is not ideal. This situation was already frustrating, but the club’s handling of it has likely further aggravated supporters.
According to the Rangers Review (11 July), Rangers will commence their season playing home matches at Hampden Park.
However, it took the club several weeks to finalize this agreement, and during that period, fans – who pay to attend these matches – were largely kept uninformed.
Rangers’ supporters are among the most passionate in the world and deserve to be updated on significant club developments like this.
Philippe Clement already has the challenging task of closing the gap with Celtic, and these off-field issues are an unnecessary distraction for him.
