BREAKING> Rabbitohs’ outside back contract upgrade.
For the duration of the season, the South Sydney Rabbitohs have elected to elevate one of their outside backs to the Top 30 squad.
Richie Kennar, who has already made seven appearances this season, has been upgraded to a Top 30 contract for the duration of the campaign, according to Zero Tackle.
Isaiah Tass, Campbell Graham, and Tyrone Munro all sustained injuries this season; as a result, all three will miss the rest of the Rabbitohs campaign. Kennar, who can play on the wing or in the centers, has been a key member of the team for the previous few seasons.
The Samoan-born Kennar is a journeyman in the NRL who has played for the Melbourne Storm, Canterbury Bulldogs, and Brisbane Broncos in the past.
He is still unsigned through the end of the 2024 NRL season, therefore it is unclear how long he will play with the Rabbitohs after this season.
There were rumors circulating earlier in the season that he had been made an offer by multiple Super League teams. This happened after, in the middle of 2023, at least four foreign teams expressed interest in his services: Warrington, Leigh, St Helens, and Salford.
Kennar is one of nine players who remain unsigned when the season ends as the Rabbitohs rebuild under Wayne Bennett in 2025.
Michael Chee-Kam, Isaiah Tass, Ben Lovett, Taane Milne, Michael Chee-Kam, Leon Te Hau, and Isaac Thompson are among the others.
