“Texas Rangers Prospect Emiliano Teodo Shines in MLB Futures Game”
The Texas Rangers signed Emiliano Teodo for $10,000 during the 2019-20 international free agent period, and since then, he’s climbed to become the 14th top prospect in their farm system. On Saturday, during the MLB All-Star Week Futures Game, he demonstrated why this was a smart investment for the Rangers.
Starting the 2024 season impressively with the Double-A Frisco Roughriders, boasting a 5-2 record and a 1.71 ERA, Teodo was selected to start on the mound for the American League at Globe Life Field. He maintained his strong performance, pitching two scoreless, hitless innings with a strikeout in just 14 pitches, facing top minor league talent from the National League, including last year’s No. 2 overall draft pick Dylan Crews. Teodo excelled against players perceived to have a higher status due to their draft positions, but he downplayed this, saying, “The bonus doesn’t make a baseball player. We’re all equal. Batters, pitchers, it’s all the same, I just come here to do my job.”
Teodo added, “It gives me motivation. If I had signed for more money, I probably would have been a different person. I’m very humbled to be here.”
Teodo admitted to being nervous and emotional before his start but settled into his best form once the game began. The Futures Game, a seven-inning exhibition, features the top talent in the minor leagues. The Texas Rangers had two other top prospects in the game: shortstop Sebastian Walcott (No. 1) and pitcher Winston Santos (No. 15).
