“Everton’s Summer Shuffle: Onana’s Departure to Spark Defensive Reinforcements”
Everton’s summer spending spree is expected to continue despite financial constraints, with a significant departure set to fund most of their activities in one go.
Minor sales of Lewis Dobbin and Ben Godfrey provided some profit, but it was clear more was needed.
Now, Amadou Onana, a 6-foot-4 Belgian, is set to join Aston Villa after a fee was agreed. This sale, although unfortunate, is the most manageable and will allow Everton to potentially reinvest in a defender as they continue their pursuit of a Serie A star.
Everton remains interested in Jackson
TchatchouaAccording to Italian outlet L’Arena, Everton is serious about negotiating a deal with Hellas Verona for Jackson Tchatchoua. Tchatchoua only recently joined Verona permanently from Charleroi, but Everton’s persistent interest suggests they are keen to secure his services.
Everton’s continued effort to bring Tchatchoua to Goodison Park highlights their dedication and might help convince the player of their commitment.
Do Everton need more defenders?
Unless Tchatchoua can play across the backline, his acquisition seems unnecessary. Right-back is not a priority position, given the presence of Seamus Coleman, Ashley Young, and Nathan Patterson. Additionally, Tchatchoua’s stint at right winger means he would likely not surpass Dwight McNeil on that flank either.
If Tchatchoua is expected to fill a role similar to Godfrey’s, providing backup and covering gaps, then it might be worth the investment. However, given his specific ties to the right flank, his necessity is questionable.
