Rangers player sought elsewhere, with Philippe Clement purportedly trying to offload.
The attacker was signed by Rangers last year, but things haven’t gone as expected in Scotland. Sam Lammers is apparently someone the Rangers are willing to let go this summer for £2 million.
Football Insider reports that if his price is met, the Scottish Premiership’s biggest clubs are willing to let him leave permanently during this window as they are ‘seeking’ to cash in. Some unidentified Dutch teams “may” be interested in him. The 27-year-old forward was acquired by Rangers last year to improve their offensive line. However, he only managed two goals in 31 appearances before being sent on loan to FC Utrecht in January for the second half of the year.
In 18 appearances, he found the net ten times after settling in the Eredivisie. Now, though, he’s back at Ibrox.
It is unclear where he will play football in the upcoming season and what his future in Glasgow will entail. Should he go, Philippe Clement’s forces would have more room and resources to accommodate additional troops.
Jordy Zuidam, the Sports Director of Utrecht, stated in May that Sam “clearly is above our salary cap.” However, we were able to come to a mutually agreeable arrangement with. To keep Sam, we now need to work with his club to find a solution.
“We’re determined to sign Sam on a long-term basis. He is a vital component of our team. We made every effort to bring him here on loan, and we’ll make every effort to bring him here permanently.
“He is actually a young man who is completely engrossed with football, as we have discussed on multiple occasions. Despite his stated desire to see the season through, he is undoubtedly giving it some thought. We’ll explore every avenue to retain him. That should be sufficient, I hope.”
Rob Alflen, their former manager, has also lately urged his former team to sign him back, saying that it could be risky for FC Utrecht to put all of its money on David Min at number nine. Regardless, it’s uncertain if he will be able to compete at the level right away.
However, you also have no idea how he will handle the strain of playing for a team like FC Utrecht. So, it would be great if he could gauge Lammers’ performance first and take it from there, so to speak.
It is unknown, though, if Utrecht will move in for him once more. In his place, they have signed Noah Ohio and David Min.
Rangers might therefore need to find him a new home.
Lammers progressed through the PSV levels, making his debut in the first squad at an early age. He also had a stint on loan at Heerenveen to gain experience. After that, he relocated to Italy, where he worked for three years at Atalanta, spending part of that time away at Sampdoria, Empoli, and Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Dutchman needs to establish some roots someplace because he has had a lot of teams in previous years.
