“Theo Bair: Potential Late Bloomer or One-Season Wonder?”
Derek Ferguson remains unconvinced that Theo Bair has shown enough to merit a move to Rangers despite his standout season at Motherwell.
According to The Athletic on June 23, both Rangers and Celtic, along with some German clubs, have expressed interest in the Canadian international.Â
Ferguson questions why a 24-year-old hasn’t been picked up by a bigger club and points to Bair’s struggles at St. Johnstone as a concern.Â
He acknowledges Bair’s physicality and finishing ability but questions if he can handle the pressures of playing for a club like Rangers or Celtic.Â
While Ferguson credits Motherwell’s manager, Stuart Kettlewell, for much of Bair’s improvement, he remains doubtful about Rangers pursuing him this summer. He noted that while Bair looked sensational at times last season, particularly in a match against Dundee, one good season at Motherwell might not be enough to attract Rangers.Â
Despite Rangers’ recent signing of Hamza Igamane and the likely departures of Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers, Ferguson is unsure if Bair would be a suitable addition.
Before last season, Bair had never scored more than four goals in a single season. However, he surged to 15 league goals last season.
This achievement placed him behind only Dessers, James Tavernier, Celtic’s Matt O’Riley, and two other Ibrox-linked scorers: Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland and Aberdeen star Bojan Miovski.
While Shankland or Miovski might seem like more reliable options, Bair could still prove to be a late bloomer if he can maintain his form from Motherwell.
