Officially confirmed: Daniel Jebbison signs in as new Bournemouth player on four year contract until June 2028.
Daniel Jebbison, the striker for Sheffield United, is AFC Bournemouth’s second summer acquisition. He joins the team after Australian A-League team Wellington Phoenix signed goalkeeper Alex Paulsen. The 20-year-old is a graduate of Sheffield United’s youth program, and had Jebbison joined the Cherries immediately following the conclusion of his Bramall Lane contract, the Yorkshire club would have been entitled to a development fee.
But according to Sky Sports News, AFC Bournemouth and Sheffield United agreed to pay a £1.5 million fee to avoid going through the tribunal process. His contract is for four years.
This takes AFC Bournemouth’s summer spending total to approximately £2.35 million.
The 6 foot 3 inch forward moved to England at the age of 13, having spent his early childhood years in Canada. While on loan, he made his first appearance for Chorley in the National League North division’s first team, and six months later, he was playing in the Premier League. In May 2021, Jebbison made four appearances for Sheffield United, three of which were starts. Against Everton, he scored on his debut.
The next season, Jebbison alternated between being back at Sheffield United in the Championship and out on loan to Burton Albion, where he scored nine goals in League One, the FA Cup, and the Football League Trophy. His opportunities with Sheffield United were limited in the 2022–2023 season, as he only managed two more goals in the Championship and FA Cup. Additionally, an injury sustained the previous season kept him from playing until the season’s final game, in which he played for 20 minutes in the Premier League against Tottenham Hotspur. In addition, he has played 13 times for England at the Under 18, 19, and 20 levels, tallying two goals. He competed with the team that won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2022.
Neill Blake, the CEO of AFC Bournemouth, told afcb.co.uk “We’re thrilled that Daniel has committed to a long-term partnership with us. He has a lot of promise qualities, and in his brief career, he has already produced several noteworthy moments. “We are excited to supervise Daniel’s continued growth in a setting that will offer him every chance to realize his amazing potential.”
It makes sense that we might want to give him a try for a season or two at that price, given his age and obvious promise. It appears that he might be a good addition and respectable backup for Solanke or Ünal next season, should they ever need to miss a few games, provided he stays injury-free. If he’s available, we’ll most likely give him some playing time in the cup games as well.
