A personal deal is reached between Milan and the French midfielder.
It appears that Serie A powerhouse Milan has only commenced the “important phases” in their effort to sign Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana. On Wednesday night, Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano made a shocking revelation, saying that Rossoneri’s contract offer was approved by the French player.
With his contract at the Stade Louis II set to expire in 2025, Fofana is eager to join Milan and has quickly established a rapport with the 19-time Italian champions. However, once Paulo Fonseca’s team gets the player’s go-ahead, they will need to persuade Monaco to approve a deal, which could be difficult given that Les Monégasques have already rejected a substantial €30 million bid from Nottingham Forest.
Monaco is at a loss because the footballer is unwilling to extend his contract in the French principality. Milan does, in fact, have the runners-up from the previous campaign in Ligue 1 in hot water, especially after reaching a personal agreement with Fofana.
Milan can wait it out because Monaco is unwilling to lose their valued player on a free transfer in a year. That being said, talks between the two clubs are in progress. Fonseca would prefer to have Fofana available from the beginning of pre-season training. His arrival could hasten Ismael Bennacer’s departure, as the Algerian international has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League. Milan is open to offers for the former Arsenal starlet, expecting to receive as much as €50 million from the sale.
