“Leicester City Confident in Securing Ndidi Amid European Interest”
Leicester City is optimistic that Wilfried Ndidi will extend his contract with the newly-promoted Premier League team, despite interest from other Premier League clubs and across Europe, according to TEAMtalk.
Ndidi, a Nigerian international, joined Leicester in 2017 from Genk for £17m, shortly after the club’s historic Premier League victory. While Leicester hasn’t replicated that success, Ndidi helped the team win the FA Cup in 2021 and the Community Shield, and recently guided them to the Championship title.
In June, following their promotion back to the Premier League, Ndidi expressed his satisfaction to Complete Sports, stating, “It is good to be back to the Premier League after being relegated, and struggling back to EPL is actually something we don’t want to go back to again. Morale is high, expectation is high, we have to ensure we do not return to the Championship. It’s a tough place to play.”
Regarding his future, Ndidi said, “If a good chance comes, I won’t mind trying my luck elsewhere but for now I remain a Leicester City player.”
Despite being a free agent after his contract expired at the end of June, and with manager Enzo Maresca leaving for Chelsea, there has been uncertainty over Ndidi’s future at Leicester. Additionally, the club faces a potential points deduction for allegedly breaching profit and sustainability rules over the past three Premier League seasons.
Nevertheless, reports suggest that Ndidi, who has made 273 appearances for Leicester, scoring 17 goals and providing 17 assists, is likely to sign a new three-year contract with a release clause, despite receiving five offers from other clubs.
