UNBELIEVEABLE: The Seahawks regret losing their playmaker to the Green Bay Packers.

The Seahawks regret losing their playmaker to the Green Bay Packers.

Because of its unique qualities, a lot has been written about the wide receiver room of the Green Bay Packers this summer. The corps doesn’t have a true No. 1 wideout as a whole, but there are several good options who have the potential to develop into one. Dontayvion Wicks, Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, and Romeo Doubs are a few of these. Bo Melton is another underappreciated talent in the room, but a lesser-known player.

One story is that Seattle regrets letting go of a player who is currently becoming well-known.

As per Braden Ramsey of Seattle Insider:
Melton was selected four spots ahead of seventh-round pick Dareke Young in 2022, but Lee Vowell of 12th Man Rising claims that Carroll, the former head coach who reportedly controlled roster decisions during his 14-year tenure, made the wrong call in keeping Young on the active roster.

Melton’s spot on the Packers squad in 2024 is all but certain. Ascending Green Bay seems to have the most understanding on how to employ Melton. The Seahawks and Pete Carroll didn’t. Dareke Young may not be included on Seattle’s 2024 roster, while Melton plays for a club that will most likely qualify for the postseason.

Throughout his 19 career games, Young has primarily served as a special teams member and has seldom appeared in the league. His two career receptions have brought his total yardage to 24.

Although hindsight is 20/20, we don’t think Carroll chose poorly between Young and Melton at the time. One of the most important factors in selecting seventh-round picks to complete a roster is special teams talent. Melton only saw 12 special teams snaps in his five games with Green Bay last year, whereas Young played roughly 46% of Seattle’s special teams snaps as a rookie.

The Packers possess a strong chance of having the NFL’s youngest, most skilled, and deepest wide receiving corps. On any given play, any one of the five or even six wide receivers could have an impact on the offense. If a team has three of those players, they are lucky.

Melton is a prime illustration. It will be interesting to observe the evolution of this offense by 2024.
