“West Ham Target Ivan Toney as Part of Ambitious Summer Recruitment”
West Ham are monitoring Brentford star Ivan Toney, according to sources at Football Insider. Tim Steidten and West Ham’s recruitment team are working hard to secure a marquee forward for the London Stadium this summer.
Toney, 28, has been a long-term target for West Ham and is expected to leave Brentford before the September deadline. Sources indicate that Brentford is open to offers for the England international, who is currently participating in the European Championships with the national team.
Football Insider previously reported on June 17 that Brentford would need to lower their asking price for Toney to facilitate a summer transfer. The striker’s contract, which expires in 12 months, adds to the urgency of the situation.
Additionally, West Ham has reportedly made a bid for Metz and Georgia star Georges Mikautadze but faces strong competition for his signature. Despite this, Toney remains a viable option for West Ham due to his proven track record as a Premier League goalscorer.
The 28-year-old came back from a gambling rule breach suspension in January and scored four goals with two assists in 17 appearances during the 2023-24 season.
He gained significant attention after scoring 20 Premier League goals in 33 appearances during the 2022-23 season.
Julen Lopetegui and West Ham have already secured deals for Max Kilman, Wes Foderingham, and Luis Guilherme this summer.
