“Staveley and Ghodoussi to Depart Newcastle United Amid Leadership Changes”
Newcastle United co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi are set to leave the club.
The Ripon financier and her husband brokered the Saudi-backed deal that ended Mike Ashley’s 14-year tenure at St James’ Park. Saudi Arabia-based PIF holds an 80% stake in Newcastle, while Staveley’s share dropped to less than 10% earlier this year.
Earlier, Staveley dismissed rumors of her resignation after a Companies House statement suggested otherwise. She clarified, “The changes made last week were purely administrative, involving non-trading subsidiaries. We remain on the ‘top-co’ and the Board.”
Staveley, who contributed to the revitalization of Newcastle’s women’s team and transfers such as Kieran Trippier, Matt Targett, and Bruno Guimaraes, had taken a step back with the appointments of sporting director Dan Ashworth and CEO Darren Eales.
Following the arrival of new sporting director Paul Mitchell, Staveley has now left her position, according to The Athletic. Newcastle United has declined to comment on this development.
