“Lazio Hold Firm as Premier League Clubs Circle Matteo Guendouzi”
Lazio have reportedly declined offers from Aston Villa and Newcastle United for Matteo Guendouzi.
The Italian club acquired the French midfielder from Olympique Marseille last summer, and although his initial season started well, it soured after Maurizio Sarri’s departure in March. His relationship with former Marseille coach Igor Tudor, with whom he had previous disagreements, further complicated matters. However, following Tudor’s departure and Marco Baroni’s arrival as coach, Guendouzi is now believed to be less keen on leaving, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via LazioNews24).
Lazio President Claudio Lotito views Guendouzi as indispensable to the team, rejecting a €25 million bid from Aston Villa, who sought to reunite him with his former Arsenal manager Unai Emery. Newcastle’s approach was also turned down. Nevertheless, there is speculation whether Lazio would resist offers surpassing €30 million for the midfielder, who might be tempted by a return to the Premier League.
