“Steelers’ Cam Sutton Suspended Eight Games for Personal Conduct Policy Violation”
NEW YORK — The NFL has suspended Pittsburgh Steelers safety Cam Sutton for the first eight games of the 2024 season due to a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy.
The league announced the suspension on Monday, noting that Sutton will not receive pay during this period and can apply for reinstatement on October 29.
The suspension is a result of Sutton’s involvement in an alleged domestic violence incident in Florida in March.
Sutton turned himself in to authorities and entered a pretrial diversion program in April after the charges were reduced from a felony to misdemeanor battery. As part of his agreement with prosecutors, Sutton was required to undergo a mental health evaluation.
The NFL conducted its own investigation into the matter, which led to the suspension.
The Detroit Lions released Sutton immediately after an arrest warrant was issued. He then signed with Pittsburgh, where he had played for the first six seasons of his career from 2017-22.
The Steelers signed Sutton to a one-year contract in June. He participated in organized team activities and minicamp but avoided discussing the specifics of his arrest or the potential NFL punishment for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.
“Adversity strikes everyone in life,” Sutton said on the day he signed with the Steelers. “It’s all about how you handle it, how you go through those phases, and knowing who you are individually without letting someone else dim your light.”
