“Divock Origi’s Struggles Continue: Relegated to AC Milan’s Youth Team Amid Transfer Uncertainty”
Former Liverpool star Divock Origi has struggled since leaving Merseyside, and his situation has now worsened.
Reports suggest Origi is playing for AC Milan’s youth team while awaiting a summer transfer. He joined Milan on a free transfer in 2022 after his Liverpool contract ended, but his first season was disappointing, scoring only twice in 36 games.
As a result, Milan deemed him surplus to requirements. He was excluded from their squad for start of the 2023/24 season and loaned to Nottingham Forest, with an option to buy. However, Forest chose not to activate the clause, as Origi only scored once in 22 games and was benched in the final weeks of the season.
Origi, now 29, returned to Milan, now managed by Paulo Fonseca. Despite having two years left on his contract, he remains unwanted. Milan began pre-season without him, and club legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic, now a senior adviser, confirmed Origi had been relegated to the youth team, Milan Futuro.
Ibrahimovic stated, “They have been called up, but for the Milan Futuro team. They are not part of the first team.”
Without a squad number and as the oldest player in the youth team, Origi’s future at Milan looks bleak. He is eager to resolve his situation quickly to avoid a prolonged stay. Despite past comebacks at Liverpool, another resurgence seems unlikely.
