“Emerson Royal’s Future in Limbo as Tottenham Reject AC Milan’s Opening Bid”
Tottenham Hotspur have rejected AC Milan’s initial bid for full-back Emerson Royal.
The Brazilian international is eager to leave Tottenham in search of regular first-team action, and AC Milan are keen on signing him. According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, the North London club turned down the Italian club’s initial offer for Emerson.
Since Ange Postecoglou’s arrival last summer, Emerson, a former Barcelona full-back, has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham. Although he played in 24 games last season, most of those appearances were due to injuries in the defense. At 25 years old, and not part of the Australian manager’s future plans, Emerson is keen on a move.
AC Milan are interested in strengthening their backline with Emerson, believing he would fit well into their system and has many years ahead of him. They recently made an initial offer, which, according to Di Marzio, was significantly below Spurs’ valuation of €20 million. Gazzetta dello Sport suggests the initial offer might have been around €15 million, including bonuses.
Emerson, with just two years left on his contract, is not in Postecoglou’s plans, so offloading him makes sense. However, Spurs did not consider the player’s desire to leave when rejecting the initial offer.
This rejection did not surprise Milan, who anticipated it despite reaching personal terms with the player. The next week or ten days will be crucial for Milan as they try to finalize a deal with Tottenham.
