Exclusive> Derrick White of the Celtics inked a multi-year extension.
Derrick White, who recently won the NBA Finals, was an integral part of the Boston Celtics championship team and is now here to stay. On Monday, it was revealed that White had signed a four-year, $125.9 million contract deal with the Celtics.
Prior to this, White’s contract had one year and $19.5 million left, but his salary has since increased significantly. As the contract ages, he will only receive an additional $28.1 million for the upcoming season. Bobby Marks of ESPN stated that the maximum amount permitted was $125.9 million.
Crucial Statistics
From the beginning of the regular season to the postseason, White was crucial to the Celtics’ success. He put up 15.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game on average the previous campaign. In addition, he made 46.1 percent of his field goals and 39.6 percent of his three-pointers.
Most of those figures only increased during the postseason. He played in 19 postseason games for the Celtics, averaging 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. He continued to shoot steadily as well, hitting 45.2 percent from the field and 40.4 percent from three-point range, which was a tiny improvement.
White gained notoriety for his outstanding defense as well as his capacity to make crucial three-pointers when it counted. After being acquired by the Boston Celtics from the San Antonio Spurs in February 2022, he has established himself as both an NBA champion and a vital member of the team.
Prior Attempts
There have been rumors circulating that White and the Celtics discussed a possible contract extension back in October 2023. But before the deadline on October 23, the two parties were unable to reach a consensus. White allayed any concerns two days after the deadline that he intended to leave Boston.
“I adore this place. Being a Celtic here has been amazing,” White remarked at the time. Whether I sign before the season or not, that won’t change. If that occurs, fantastic; if not, I’m still eager for the season to begin.
The day following the deal, White celebrated his 30th birthday, and he still has enough left in the tank. After winning the NBA championship, he will rejoin the Celtics and help the team attempt a repeat in 2025.
