“Rangers Eye Rrahmani and Shankland as Striker Departures Loom”
Cyriel Dessers is now very likely to leave Rangers this summer after a month of speculation, according to David Edgar. Edgar reported on the Heart and Hand Podcast account on X that even with Danilo and Hamza Igamane, the Gers still have a shortage of strikers.
Although several players are linked with a move to Ibrox, there isn’t a definitive target yet, Edgar added.
How will Rangers address their striker issue this summer?
Rangers have multiple number nine options, despite fan opinions on some squad members. Players like Dessers, Sam Lammers, Danilo, and now Igamane can all play as the main striker.
However, Dessers and Lammers seem likely to leave. Lammers spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at FC Utrecht in the Netherlands, where he performed well. Despite this, a transfer is not imminent due to the potential price the Gers might demand.
Dessers, who was one of Philippe Clement’s top scorers, has submitted a transfer request [Soccernet, 25 June] following recent interest in him.
Albion Rrahmani and Lawrence Shankland are two players most frequently mentioned in connection with a move to Glasgow.
Rrahmani appears to be on his way to Sparta Prague [Pro Sport, 29 June], while Shankland would likely join Rangers without hesitation.
Although nothing is confirmed, it would be surprising if Rangers did not pursue another striker if Dessers or Lammers leave this summer.
