“Rangers Women Overhaul Squad Amid Pursuit of Premier League Glory”
Rangers Women have announced four permanent departures as Jo Potter’s team returned to pre-season training in Glasgow.
In a statement on their website (5 July), the Light Blues revealed that Kayla Hardie, Jenna Ferguson, Lucy Inman, and academy graduate Georgia Gray have left Ibrox to pursue new opportunities.
Hardie has joined Hearts, Ferguson has made a permanent move to Partick Thistle after spending last season with them, and Inman has signed with newly promoted Queen’s Park, who will compete in the Scottish Women’s Premier League.
Gray, who spent most of last season recovering from an injury, will join Ferguson at Partick Thistle, concluding her time with the Gers after making her league debut in 2022.
Regrettably, women’s football still features very short contracts, unlike the men’s game, making a summer clearout at Ibrox somewhat inevitable.
Jo Potter has strengthened her first-team squad to close the gap with Celtic at the top of the Premier League, which would have made it difficult for these four players to secure first-team spots.
Although it’s unfortunate they won’t continue their careers in Glasgow, the Light Blues have facilitated their progression in Scottish football, ensuring they will still play regularly.
Hopefully, all the players leaving Ibrox this summer will have successful careers, and they might even return to Rangers in the future as others have before.
It remains uncertain if Potter will make additional signings this summer, but with pre-season underway, the main goal is to beat Celtic for the title.
