“AC Milan’s Future: San Donato’s Strength and San Siro’s Uncertainty”
Currently, it seems highly unlikely that AC Milan’s future plans will change, as they are in a great position with the San Donato project. However, Mayor Beppe Sala still hopes to save San Siro.
It’s evident to everyone that the chances of renovating San Siro are slim, given the progress on the San Donato project. Even if issues arise, Rossoneri and RedBird owner Gerry Cardinale is committed to building a new home for the club, and this stance appears increasingly firm with each passing day.
In a recent meeting between Milan, Inter, and WeBuild about the renovation, it was revealed that there were no detailed plans, only a ‘manifestation of intent’ rather than a concrete idea.
Mayor Sala spoke to Corriere della Sera about the stadium’s future, mentioning that investors might be a topic for the future. His remarks were shared by Milan News.
“My dream, which I haven’t been able to achieve, is reopening the Navigli. It’s a very costly project and we lack the funds. I believe we must continue internationalization for the city’s benefit.
Regarding the stadium, I remain pragmatic, neither optimistic nor pessimistic. I hope a solution can be found to save San Siro and convince the teams it can still be their home.
One possibility is that the two clubs buy the Meazza. Anything is possible. The issue is whether the teams agree to its renovation, especially since WeBuild has shown it can be done without halting matches, losing only 4-5,000 seats of the current 74,000.
Now that this is clear, the decision is up to them. If they choose this path, any formula—buying, the 90-year surface right—can work. Let’s see. And for the work itself, who better than the private sector? They have more capacity and can be quick. I hope so.”
