“Belgium Eyes Philippe Clement as Potential National Team Coach Amid Post-Euros Reflection”
Rangers manager Philippe Clement is being considered as a potential candidate to lead his national team, according to Belgian legend Rene Vandereycken. Belgium’s disappointing Euro campaign, which ended with elimination by France in the Round of 16, has prompted discussions about new leadership. Manager Domenico Tedesco faces significant scrutiny following another disappointing tournament for Belgium. Clement’s name has emerged among the possible successors as Belgium begins to assess its performance at the Euros.
Former Belgium manager Vandereycken, who played in the European Championships Final in 1980 and also coached Anderlecht, Standard Liege, and Twente Enschede, suggested Philippe Clement for the role. He expressed a preference against hiring another foreign coach, stating, “Philippe Clement is a potential candidate, but he is currently committed to Rangers. Many other Belgian managers are also unavailable.” Clement, who earned 38 caps for Belgium from 1998 to 2007 and scored a goal against Bulgaria 21 years ago, is considered. However, it appears likely that Tedesco will receive backing to lead Belgium into the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
