BREAKING> Storm confirms a one-year agreement for the defender and a long contract for the forward

Grant Anderson and Alec Macdonald’s twin resignings have been verified by the Melbourne Storm.
Outside back Anderson has been given a one-year deal that runs until the end of 2025, while Macdonald has been given a four-year agreement that runs through at least the end of the 2028 campaign.

Despite being only 22 years old, Macdonald has already established himself as a vital member of Melbourne’s forward rotation. The tough, reliable lock forward has played in 35 NRL games to date, including 11 this season, all of which have come off the bench.

This season, he has run the ball aggressively, tackled at a rate of 95%, added six offloads, and broke eight tackle breaks.

The forward claimed that his contract was the outcome of his diligence.

Being awarded a contract for the upcoming few years makes me very happy. I feel as though all of my effort has been worthwhile. In a club release confirming the announcement, he added, “I can now focus on my football and improving even more.”

“I’m really appreciative to Tim Glasby for seeing me in my early years and giving me my first chance at Storm, as I struggled to make rep teams.” I’m also incredibly appreciative of Bellsa [coach Craig Bellamy] and the team for believing in me.

“I felt that Melbourne was home when I moved here, but Brisbane was home when I first came down.” I adore the club, the people there, and the way of life.

“Joe Chan is my roommate and a fantastic teammate; I hope he stays with the club so we can further our careers together.”

In contrast, Anderson debuted in the NRL in 2022 amid a Storm injury crisis. Taken off the Sunshine Coast Falcons roster, he made an impressive start with two runs scored and showed promise in a few more games during the second part of that season.

He’s played in 17 NRL games so far this year, making seven of those appearances. This season, the 24-year-old has also played off the bench for Craig Bellamy, calling the team “a second family.”

The 24-year-old stated, “I’m excited to be here for longer as the club is like a second family. This is my third year here.”

I was playing for the under-20 team when Covid struck, so to be honest, I had no idea where my career would go.

“I had the good fortune to be signed by the Sunshine Coast Falcons after spending a season with the Northern Pride. During a preseason trial, I visited the Storm, and the rest is history.

“I can’t wait to rip in with the lads and thank my family and partner for all the sacrifices and support they have shown to help me along the way. I always dreamed of playing NRL, so to be here still doing that is really special.”
