“Lewis and Alli: Seeking Fresh Starts Ahead of New Season”
Lewis is entering the final year of his contract at St James’ Park after his £15 million transfer from Norwich City in 2020. Last season, he was on loan at Watford in the Championship, where he made 38 appearances in all competitions.
Watford had an option to make Lewis’s loan permanent but chose not to, leaving him in search of a new club.
The 26-year-old participated in Newcastle’s pre-season last summer before securing his loan move. Now, Newcastle aims to arrange a permanent exit for him this summer.
During the off-season, Lewis has been working on his fitness outside Barnet’s Hive Stadium in London with fitness trainer Connor Peters.
Joining him in training were Everton midfielder Dele Alli and West Bromwich Albion midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah. Alli, like Lewis, is at a pivotal point in his career, being out of contract at Everton after missing the entire 2023-24 season due to injury.
Previously, Alli was on loan at Besiktas, but his time in Turkey was cut short by injury. He hasn’t played a competitive match since February 2023 and is focusing on his fitness for the new season.
The 28-year-old was briefly associated with a move to Newcastle during Eddie Howe’s initial transfer window in January 2022. However, the Magpies eventually decided against the deal, and Alli ended up joining Everton instead.
Although Alli is now a free agent, he is permitted to train at Everton, and a new contract remains a possibility.
