“Timberwolves Sign Joe Ingles to Bolster Bench and Veteran Presence”

The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed Joe Ingles to a one-year veteran minimum contract. Last season, Ingles averaged 4.4 points and 3.0 assists in 17.2 minutes per game for the Orlando Magic.

With Kyle Anderson moving to the Golden State Warriors, the Timberwolves prioritized acquiring a veteran player who could offer shooting and playmaking on a veteran minimum deal.

Ingles, 36, who has a career three-point shooting percentage of 41%, will provide the Timberwolves with veteran experience and a perimeter threat off the bench. Last season, the Australian shot 43.5% from three-point range and played in 68 regular season games for Orlando, in addition to all seven of their postseason games. The Magic had initially signed Ingles to a two-year, $22 million contract a year ago but declined his second-year option recently. This contract was similar to Anderson’s two-year, $18 million deal signed in 2022."BREAKING NEWS: Timberwolves Settle for Aging Joe Ingles on Veteran Minimum Deal... Read More"

Despite reduced playing time over the past three seasons, Ingles has maintained over three assists per game. He has strong chemistry with former Jazz teammates Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley, and the trio will aim to recreate their success while adjusting to the Timberwolves’ deep roster. Ingles is expected to be a significant veteran presence in the locker room, replacing Anderson. During the 2020-2021 season, he was the runner-up for the Sixth Man of the Year award, highlighting his value as a teammate.

The Timberwolves now have 13 NBA contracts and an open two-way contract spot. They will need to add at least one more player before the start of the 2024-25 NBA season.
