The Hornets’ deal for Josh Green has now been made public in full.
Compared to the previous night, Day 2 of NBA free agency saw much more activity. The Charlotte Hornets even participated, acquiring Josh Green in the transaction that sent Klay Thompson from the Golden State Warriors to the Dallas Mavericks.
Following weeks of rumors, it became evident that Thompson wanted to leave Golden State. Now, he’s joining a Mavericks club that just made it to the NBA Finals.
But the Mavericks needed another team to help broker the trade since they lacked the cap room to complete the move. The Hornets stepped in at that point.
Josh Green’s trade to the Hornets is complete, including Klay Thompson’s departure from the Warriors to join the Mavericks.
After Charlotte got involved, they acquired Green, who, because of his improved three-point shooting and defensive ability, projects to be a significant contributor on the wing next to LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller.
Although the transaction was first announced in the early afternoon, the Mavericks and Warriors were still in the midst of their negotiations, so the complete specifics were not finalized until much later in the evening.Green, who is only 23 years old, is the kind of guy the Hornets should be taking a chance on in order to build around Ball and Miller and prepare for the future.
He will get the opportunity to play significant minutes for the Hornets and might perhaps advance in his career.
In the meantime, the Mavericks sign one of the greatest three-point shooters in NBA history in an attempt to return to the Finals the next season and maybe emerge victorious.
Although losing a franchise icon in Thompson cannot be ignored, Golden State followed the move by adding guard De’Anthony Melton, who was previously with the Philadelphia 76ers, to a one-year contract.
