The Los Angeles Dodgers were hoping that their ace would erase the bitter taste of the Giants’ walk-off triumph after losing Friday night in San Francisco.
As Tyler Glasnow took the mound in front of 39,663 fans on Saturday at Oracle Park, frustrations rose early and often. In a shortened three-inning start, he was pounded for five runs and seven hits, prompting manager Dave Roberts to use his bullpen earlier than anticipated.
The Dodgers defeated the Giants 14-7 in 11 innings thanks to the combined efforts of eight pitchers who held them to just one earned run over the last eight innings.
From my warm-ups to the game, “I lost all feel [for my pitches] today,” Glasnow remarked. It was just one of those days when everything seemed out of my control. I would assume my release point was somewhere from pitch one, but it’s actually somewhere else. Today it was simply a bit disorganized.
Unusually, Glasnow was unable to adapt; yet, the bullpen saved him. After the game, he thanked them for everything.
“Today, I didn’t,” he declared. “In my opinion, it’s more important to just try to compete without thinking. I’m simply relieved that the squad was able to rally and win the game since a lot of things slipped past me.
