In order to secure a seat on the World Rugby Council, Fiji Rugby conducts the necessary measures.
The Fiji Rugby Union hopes to rejoin the World Rugby Council and has passed its constitution.
In May of last year, Fiji was removed from the World Rugby’s top decision-making body because of concerns expressed over its governance framework.
Following this, World Rugby issued a statement detailing its plans to “restore stability” in Rugby House
Peter Mazey, the chairman of Fiji Rugby, declared after the organization’s special general meeting (SGM) on Saturday that everything will be back in order and that they will take this to World Rugby.
“The SGM was specifically called to discuss matters concerning the governance and structure of the organisation particularly the new company to be formed and called the Fiji Rugby Union Limited that will pave the way for the organisation and sport in the next 30 years and beyond,” Fiji Rugby said in a statement.
According to Mazey, the new business will collaborate with the nonprofit that will serve as its watchdog in the new arrangement
“The Drua and Counter Ruck, our 49 percent ownership of that entity will come under the charity just like our properties that includes Rugby House and the High-Performance Units,” he stated.
According to Mazey, World Rugby contributed a consultant to the process, and New Zealand Rugby, which is undergoing a comparable assessment, also contributed in some way.
The new arrangement will see the unions choose who gets to serve on the board; the government, the prime minister, or World Rugby will no longer nominate anyone to the board
“The new structure focuses on giving power to the Unions to move the sport a more commercial focused entity.”
The union representatives passed a new organization that places the High-Performance Unit under the chief executive.
Within the following 45 days, Fiji Rugby will conduct an annual general meeting to elect a new board of directors and chairman. .
