“Brighton Signs Gambia International Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle for £30 Million”
Brighton and Hove Albion have signed Gambia international Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle United.
The 19-year-old forward has agreed to a contract with the Seagulls until June 2029, with Brighton reportedly paying £30 million ($38 million) for his transfer.
Minteh spent last season on loan at Feyenoord in the Netherlands, where he scored ten goals and provided six assists.
“I’m really happy about the move,” Minteh said. “Feyenoord was a great experience for me. Everyone loved me—the coaching staff, players—it felt like a family,” he told Brighton’s website. “But Brighton is a club I’ve watched in the Premier League. It’s a great club for young players, and the way they progress here is important to me.
“I think it’s fantastic to move to another Premier League club. Even though I didn’t play any games for Newcastle, look where I am now! I have the chance at Brighton in the Premier League.”
Minteh, who turns 20 on July 22, has already earned seven caps and scored three goals for Gambia, a country passionate about the Premier League.
“The Premier League is huge back home in Gambia,” he added. “It’s what everyone talks about and watches. I’d say the whole country is happy for me and has been supporting me since I played in Denmark.
“Playing for my country has always been a dream since I was young, so I’m very happy to represent Gambia.”
