“Ross Barkley Joins Aston Villa on Permanent Deal: A Return to Villa Park”
Aston Villa have secured the services of midfielder Ross Barkley from Luton Town on a permanent contract.
The 30-year-old featured in 32 Premier League matches for Luton during the 2023-24 season, as the club faced relegation from the top flight.
Barkley previously spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Aston Villa from Chelsea.
Beginning his career at Everton, Barkley amassed 150 appearances over eight years and was regarded as one of England’s promising talents, representing the national team in 33 matches from 2013 to 2019, including the 2014 World Cup.
After joining Chelsea in a £15m move in 2018, Barkley made 100 appearances before mutually parting ways at the start of the 2022-23 season. He then rejuvenated his career with Luton Town, helping him regain his form in the Premier League after a stint with Ligue 1 side Nice.
Luton manager Rob Edwards expressed his admiration for Barkley, noting his desire to continue playing for England, which influenced his decision to move to Villa Park.
Villa’s recent signings include Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea for a combined fee of 22m euros (£18.6m), alongside Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen for £35m and striker Lewis Dobbin from Everton.
