Due to an injury, Kristaps Porzingis will not be competing in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and will require surgery.

According to an Associated Press article, Porzingis cannot represent Latvia in the Games due to a dislocated posterior tibialis tendon and a torn retinaculum, which are located in the calf and ankle regions.

It is recognized, meanwhile, that Porzingis’ calf strain, which kept him out of action for ten games starting on April 29, has nothing to do with this tendon issue.

“Surgery will take place in the next few days, and more information will be shared as it becomes available.”
Throughout his career, Porzingis has been plagued by injuries. Most recently, a dislocated tendon in his left ankle forced him to miss the third game of the Celtics’ NBA Finals series against the Dallas Mavericks.

Despite having permission to play, he was unable to do so in the fourth game and only got 16 minutes in the fifth.

In his first six postseason games of 2024, he averaged 13.5 points and five rebounds despite his injury problems.
In the first game of the NBA Finals series against the Mavericks, he also finished with 20 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots.

In remarks made earlier in June, the Latvian stated he might be sidelined for a “few months” but did not provide a firm comeback date.

The player’s recovery is still in the early stages, according to Celtics coach Brad Stevens, who also stated in words obtained by ESPN that “Kristaps is still in the middle of consulting with some different doctors and specialists.”After the procedure, there will be a more detailed rehabilitation schedule.”
