“Roma’s Youth Renaissance: Revitalizing Talent Under New Ownership”
Since the Friedkins assumed control of Roma, the club has injected €50m into their youth systems and is now poised to begin showcasing their burgeoning talents. Several Giallorossi youth products, such as Riccardo Calafiori, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Gianluca Scamacca, and Davide Frattesi, are part of Luciano Spalletti’s Italy squad at the European Championship, while Nicola Zalewski represents Poland.
Under James Pallotta’s leadership, Roma prioritized signing foreign players over nurturing their own homegrown talents, a strategy that proved unsuccessful and weakened the club. However, since Dan Friedkin and his family took over, there has been a notable shift.
According to today’s Corriere dello Sport (Page 26), Roma have invested more than €50m in their youth department under the Friedkins and are now preparing to rely more on young talents, with plans to promote some to Daniele De Rossi’s first team. Players from the Primavera squad like Niccolo Pisilli, Joao Costa, Lovro Golic, Matteo Plaia, and Mattia Mannini are poised to integrate into the senior Giallorossi side in the coming months, alongside promising talents from the Under-19 squad.
