Done Trade: Young goalie signs a one-year, two-way contract agreement with the Bruins
On Monday night, the Bruins revealed some goalkeeper news.
Goalie Brandon Bussi was signed by Boston to a one-year, two-way contract deal with a $775,000 salary charge. In the 2023–24 season, Bussi made 41 appearances for the Providence Bruins, tallying a 23–10–5 record with a 2.67 goals–against average and a.913 save percentage.
The Bruins called up the 25-year-old in January following Linus Ullmark’s mysterious upper-body ailment. Bussi never played in an NHL game, however he was Jeremy Swayman’s backup against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Even before Bussi took the field, head coach Jim Montgomery had nothing but positive things to say about him.
Montgomery remarked, “Just his compete, his athleticism, and his attitude.” “He exudes a truly positive and cheerful demeanor,”
Since Boston was eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs in May, the goaltending position for the Bruins has been the buzz of the winter. Ullmark has expressed his wish to stay with the Bruins as he approaches the last year of his contract. However, general manager Don Sweeney stated that in what he anticipates to be a “aggressive” summer, he would look at every option when it comes to the goalie.
Compared to last year, the Bruins are in a stronger position to bolster their roster with about $21 million in salary space available. However, they would benefit from signing a genuine No. 1 center, and they need to secure Jeremy Swayman to a long-term contract, which both parties are optimistic will be completed this offseason.
