Villa’s Financial Concerns Eased by Kellyman’s Sale to Chelsea and Maatsen’s Acquisition

Unai Emery’s concerns about Aston Villa meeting the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations will be alleviated by the imminent £19 million sale of Omari Kellyman to Chelsea.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder is currently undergoing a medical at Chelsea today, June 24, before finalizing a permanent transfer. Kellyman, who has made just six senior appearances, all as a substitute, is expected to sign a five-year contract with an option for an additional year.

This transaction will coincide with – but is separate from – Villa’s acquisition of Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen. The Netherlands international, who recently played in the Champions League final and was on loan at Borussia Dortmund for the latter half of last season, is set to join Villa Park for £37.5 million."Breaking: Aston Villa Eases Financial Problems By Selling £19m Star Player to Chelsea...Read more

Maatsen completed his medical tests at the Dutch national team camp in Germany over the weekend and will sign a six-year contract. Emery will be pleased with this addition as the left-back position would have soon become a concern. Alex Moreno is looking to return to Spain and Lucas Digne is nearing the end of his peak years.

In other Premier League transfer news, Villa’s local rivals Wolves are negotiating with Newcastle. Wolves are trying to fend off Newcastle’s interest in their central defender and captain Max Kilman, having already rejected a player-plus-cash offer over the weekend.

Newcastle is expected to return with an improved offer as they seek to strengthen their defense, while West Ham United is also interested. West Ham, under new manager Julen Lopetegui, had a £25 million bid rejected by Wolves a few days ago but plan to make a better offer this week.
