See how Fiji’s electric superstar tears through the Blues with a 55-meter solo attempt.
The Fijian Drua’s maiden playoff encounter was marred by a 36-5 defeat at Eden Park to the Blues; but, winger Selestino Ravutaumada demonstrated why he has been among Super Rugby Pacific‘s top players thus far this season.
The 24-year-old broke open the Blues from more than halfway out to score his eighth try of the year. The explosive runner has led the competition in line breaks this year and has been a force to be reckoned with.
After an outstanding Super season, the former Rotorua Boys High student, who previously played for the New Zealand Warriors before joining the Fijian Drua, will be hoping to increase his total of seven Fiji caps.
For his performance, which included 75 run metres on eight carries and four defenders beaten—the most of which came on his spectacular try—he was voted the Drua’s player of the match.
The Blues led 22-0 at the break, but the Drua came back with a much tougher second half after Ravutaumada’s touchdown.
They managed to keep the Blues scoreless until hooker Kurt Eklund went over in the 63rd minute, which Blues captain Dalton Papalii called a “wake up call” for the group.
After the game, he stated, “I think it’s what we needed; it’s a bit of a wake-up call that teams can just change.”
We wanted to play in the appropriate areas of the field and force the Drua to run the entire length of it since we knew how deadly they might be.
They managed to hang onto it and take us off guard. They did this by executing some strong carries that briefly put us back on the gain line.
“It serves as a helpful reminder that we must respond and adjust on the field to new situations that may be thrown at us.”
